Issue #5

Episode with

Hey Igniter,

So this week’s Profit Report is going to start with a bit of a rant because something I read last week pissed me off…

In last week’s issue I used a saying that most Internet marketers are familiar with, and that was…

“The Money Is In The List”

After I sent that issue, I was reading an article on another respected Internet marketing website and the author was talking about how he HATED that saying.

They said it was “insensitive” and no one should look at their database as “money” because they’re “real people”.

He completely missed the point.

Here’s the point of this message…

If you want to build a successful online business you need to build YOUR OWN database of people that you can communicate with via email, for various reasons including…

1. It’s far easier and more profitable to sell to someone that you already have a relationship with. So when someone buys from you the first time, over deliver and make sure they WANT to come back to buy from you again.

2. Most people will not buy from you the very first time they land on your website, so by capturing their email address you now have the ability to follow up, build a relationship and turn them into a customer.

3. A database gives you security because we typically get traffic from other websites that we’ve got little control over. If that traffic sources dries up, you can still generate sales from your database while you rebuild traffic.

4. The easiest way to find out what your market wants is to ask, and when you have a database you have the ability to solicit instant input and feedback to drive your future product and business ideas… giving your customers what THEY want!

5. It’s the cheapest, most profitable, highest converting form of direct marketing online today. Period. End of story.

So based on those five points (I could’ve come up with more) I would argue that “the money IS in fact in the list”.

But here’s where this guy really missed the boat…

For those five points to be true you need to treat your list with respect. You need to treat them like real people.

This means unconditionally educating and communicating with them. This means recommending products and services YOU believe in.

So in summary, I guess another way to put it is…

“The money is in the list… as long as you’re not a jerk”.

And on that note, I just interviewed an email marketing expert by the name off Marc Goldman.

Marc’s companies manage massive email marketing campaigns (think: hundreds of millions of emails per month) which gives him incredible insight into what is working with email marketing TODAY.

So when I got him on my Podcast I grilled him, and whether you’re an email marketing beginner or a seasoned veteran I know you will walk away with some email marketing strategies you can use…
